Buy a used fiddle from an experienced Fiddler, but get it checked out by a luthier before you pay your money down. Ask around the local festivals and you might even ask that luthier in advance. They often have instruments that were dropped off and never picked up. I bet you could get a real nice fiddle without too much fuss that way.

you could try going to the local music store or find somewhere that gives msuic lessons and ask how to get an instrument...you could give it shot! good luck!

I just went to my local music shop to get my violin, then I went to a place more focussed on violins to get my good one. Try to compare a few of them. Find someone who can play them for you and listen to the sound. Choose the one you think sounds the best. Which one do you sound the best on? which one is of the quality you need? These answers may not be apparent to a first timer, so find a teacher to help you. Good Luck!

check your local music stores - you can skim through the classified ads too - or check the yellow pages for a violin/strings repair shop and check with them - somtmes they sell used instrumnts. also ceck out www.woodwindbrasswind.com - tat's where i go my secod and current violin - love it! great quality, nice price....
