If your hands are considerably smaller than average, then yes, there are smaller guitars that you'll find more playable.

Get a high-quality one and you shouldn't be too disappointed with the tone. I've played full-sized guitars all my life until recently, when I decided that I needed to reduce the overall size of my instruments; now I have a Washburn Rover backpacker guitar and a similar-sized Brownsville electric. The Washburn has a very good sound for a little acoustic, as far as I'm concerned, and of course the electric gets its tone from the amp and effects.

You should go to a good shop and try out several models of smaller guitar, then have someone play the ones that feel good while your back is turned so you can judge which one sounds best to you.

How tall are you?

Unless you're really, really tiny (like less than 5 feet tall), you can almost certainly play a full size guitar.

If your hand can reach a 3-fret range, that's actually normal. If a note that you need falls outside the 3-fret range that your hand is in, you simply need to shift your hand position up or down the neck accordingly. As you get better on guitar you'll learn to shift your hand up and down very easily and naturally and it won't be a problem at all.

You don't need a smaller guitar -- and you certainly shouldn't give up learning the guitar!
