Make sure to listen to all sorts of genres of music- but please know the classics- try to take voice lessons/music theory classes, apply to schools focused on the arts if possible, and most importantly, don't be afraid to show you talent off! perform in talent shows in or musicals in your community!

start a band. practice songs by other people. once you have those down write your own songs. practice like crazy until you've got it down. look for gigs where or around the place you live. put a bunch of your bands songs on myspace, youtube or any other place you can find. hope for the best. now don't get really high expectations. the singing industry is mainly about luck. in fact 80% of it is luck, 8% is determination, 5% is talent and the rest is who you know. i mean look at hannah montana she has the singing talent of a walrus and yet because her father is star, she got a job. good luck.
