Position:Home>Performing Arts> Choice of an Electric Guitar?

Question:Ok i need a lot of help with choosing my first electric guitar. I've been playing acoustic for a couple of months now. My budget price range is around the 200's but the most i can afford is about 220 or maybe 240 dollars. I'm interested in playing a guitar that can really give a plain old "rock" sound and can play any rock song around. Any suggestions? Personally I'm getting interested in a fender strat or an epiphone les paul, but dont know if thats a good choice...

Either of those are good choices. They are very different so you should try them both out. The Strat has single coil pickups and more string tension than the Paul and is probably more versatile. The Paul's humbucker's are MUCH louder and string tension lower so string are easier to bend.

Dont go Fender. Go Gibson or their cheaper branch Epihone.

Great Epiphone Les pauls for 250 and above.

THE Rock Guitar.

Do it.

I have all 3 guitars. I own a '63 Gibson Les Paul, 2 fenders and Jackson as well.
Gibson has a big FAT sound and good for jazz, blues, and Led Zep type rock.
I play and teach all types. But, I prefer the Jackson for the byte and the squeal of the harmonics.

But on average, the best guitar is Gibson and Epiphone, although much much cheaper in price than Gibson, still have an awesome fingerboard and a damn good sound.

Look at Epiphone and LTD... both aren't as expensive but are still decently made. Of course Jackson is nothing to sneeze at either, but I think they might be priced just above 250... I dunno. I just bought an LTD that I'm amazingly happy with... I actually bought it as a backup guitar and now am using it more than my Jackson. It's just how the neck works for my hands, I guess. Good stuff!
