A good compromise would be a five string electric violin.
Ted Brewer makes on in his Vivo2 range. Check out his website. I play a 4 string vivo 2 and it is out of this world. Hope this helps

nope... viola strings are longer/thicker ..viola itself is bigger... quality is different.....

a violin and a viola really arn't that much alike. it's more like a cello if anything. and i think the electric strings are a little different and they don't make a C string to fit. overall, the sound quality would be much different. but i've heard they do make electric violas.
