I dont get guitar scales?

Question:some sites show scales like this one http://www.guitarists.net/scales/index.p... but I dont get how to play it ( if anyone can tell me the frets and the order for playing the c major scale???)

k, look the major scale is composed of whole and half steps. like so: W-W-H-W-W-W-H. start with c and work your way up... 8th fret on the 6th string is a c..... its a good place to start lol.

When you're playing a scale, you start with the root note and end on the root note (ideally). With one example of a C Major scale, you might start by playing the 3rd fret of the 5th string and finish playing the 5th string of the 3rd string.

This text won't format out properly to do proper tab, but I can list the first octave of the C Major scale starting on the 3rd fret of the 5th string.

3rd fret, 5th string
5th fret, "
7th fret, "
3rd fret, 4th string
5th fret, "
7th fret, "
4th fret, 3rd string
5th fret, "

I hope that makes sense. Compare what you're doing to other examples of the C Major scale and you should see the connection.

Oh yeah, and the strings are ordered from the thinnest and highest pitched string being the "first" string to the thickest and lowest pitched string being the "sixth" string.

Make sure you practice your minor pentatonic scales, the minor pentatonic is "the" scale that a huge portion of music is based off of - a lot of rock, rock soloing, pop, blues, etc.
