stairway to heaven

Stairway to Heaven

Canarsie-- where everyone looks the same.

hopefully after a year you can play a g cord

Flight of the bumble bee ! You should be able to play that by now?

It's all about how much you practice, and how dedicated you are. Don't worry about what you "should" be able to play...just concentrate on practicing and working at YOUR own goal.

Ive been playing for 6 yrs.
Id say its a preference thing...if you don't know the secret to great guitar playing, then Ill tell you.
Patience. And play what you know.
Learn to read and write tablature.
Take a few lessons. Usually the first lessons are spent showing the teacher what you know and you interests.
The best classical guitarists will tell you its not the scales they learned but what they want to hear. So if your into alternative rock -korn deftones...learn dropped tuning..if you into hard rock-punk...they mainly use standard tuning..every genre uses both im just categorizing them..
Theres alot of styles to learn. I personally pick what I like from each and and mix them.
So...learn what your into.
search for guitar tabs on the net.
Not all are correct though!

To answer your question in short,
1. How to tune your guitar.(I use a Korg tuner)
2. How to string your own guitar(teacher/learn on the net).
3. Tablature read/write.
4. A handful of your favorite chords.
5.Face the fact: That not everyone who plays, cuts a record.
There are a lot of really great guitarists out there who haven't made it big time.

All open chords, a few scales, a couple songs.
