Position:Home>Performing Arts> What song should I learn to play on my new electric guitar?

Question:I got a new electric guitar, nothing fancy... really nothing much at all but now I know a bunch of acoustic songs but no electric guitar songs! Gimme some ideas for what I should learn that's kinda intermediate or easy, I've only been playing for about a year. I like rock, alternative rock, emo, metal and metalcore if that helps narrow it down. Thanks for your help!

Go back to the 60's. Use A D E and play Johnny. B. Goode, Hound Dog, Blue Suede shoes, Roll Over Beethoven, Twist and Shout, Heartbeat and so on. Hope this helps.

Smoke on the water. It's fun and it's easy.

Let me update this based upon your feedback. How about Journey "Wheel in the sky" (also a pretty easy one, and fun to sing) or Bon Jovi "Wanted Dead or Alive"? Those are fun to sing.

I used to sing Neal Young "No Easy Horses"

Stairway to Heaven

Learn songs you like listening to. You'll learn them way quicker than something I could advise you to learn because it's easy, or whatever. The best way to learn an instrument is to teach yourself how to play the music that you love.

Failing that, get 'Never Mind the Bollocks' by the Sex Pistols and learn all the songs on the first side.
