Question:This has been my DREAM since freshman year and I want it so badly. The only problem is that I am up against a lot of tough competition. Can you give me some advice or pointers? Also, what's a good website to learn how to conduct being as I have no clue?

I was in Marching Band for 4 years in High School in NJ. We had the top band director in the tri state area, everyone wanted him. We were number 1 in the entire east coast. that was 1985-1988. I played the flute.

Anyway, the position you want is very difficult. Because the job is so hard, my band only gave that position to 3 seniors every year.

I hope you are able to make it, good luck. Every year the 3 that made it were always the band directors pets. Thats okay, they should be his favorites. They are his right hand man so to speak. Make yourself known, always be there for the director. Just as tho you are trying to apply for a job. You may get it

Jake - a website won't do. Find a field conductor that can spend a few Saturdays with you, and pay them for it.

Also - you have to walk and talk with authority and confidence - note that I did not say arrogance. Are you a confident person? Do you respect others? This is extremely critical in order for your band to respect you.
