Position:Home>Performing Arts> What are the notes on the Bb scale for oboe?

Question:I've recently switched to oboe from clarinet and I feel really stupid for asking this question but what is the Bb scale on the oboe? What notes?
Does it start on the C like the clarinet does or the Bb because it's a non-transposing instrument?

The oboe is a non - transposing instrument.. a "concert pitch" instrument. The clarinet is a transposing instrument. None of that matters however when you are playing a particular scale. The Bb scale is the Bb scale... period. The notes are the same. Bb, C , D, Eb, F, G , A, Bb...... If your conductor says something like "We're going to warm up with the concert (concert being a big clue for you) then and only then do you have to worry about which scale to play.... If you are playing the oboe you just play the announced scale. If you are playing the clarinet you have to start one full step higher because the clarinet sounds 1 full step lower than the note you are actually playing.... I hope that helps.

No, it is a Bb scale for the oboe. Go buy a book like "Foundation Studies" and practice all the scales out of it. It will provide you dexterity in all keys which will be very helpful, and also completely establish you in the instrument.
