Position:Home>Performing Arts> How can I be less nervous???

Question:Tomorrow I'm trying out for Les Mis. I have to sing a broadway song, then learn a dance that they're going to teach us all in 20 minutes, then preform it in front of the judges!!! I'm singing Good Morning Baltimore, which I find fairly easy to sing. But I have a few concerns.
Last year I tried out for Annie and sang Castle On A Cloud. I was shaking EVERYWHERE!!!!! I can't even believe I made it through the whole song! Except I didn't get a part though.

1. How can I be less nervous?
2. How can I know where to look when I sing? (cause last time I was awkward and didn't know if I should look at the judges or around the room)
Then one more thing. Some parts in the song go just above the break in my voice, and if I sing it the way it sounds best, then it sounds really weird when I go above the break. Like...you can tell that I'm going above it. But when I sing in a different way that isn't quite as lively, it isn't quite as noticeable. Is there a way to hide when I'm going over the break

Remember- YOU are trying on THEIR company as much as they are trying YOU on! It would be your JOB to sing for them, so check out your space, the hall, and see if you'd even LIKE to work for them!

Nerves are just a part of the game.
Sing smartly. We all have "a break." I'd use the way that is livelier. The sound will cut better in a big space...don't sweat the break, OR Show that it bothers YOU.
Confidence CONFIDENCE! Your job is to convince them how wonderful and personal and Professional you are! (Not to show them your weaknesses)
They'll have coaches and people there to work out your break once you GET THE PART!
Plant your body firmly, weight centered between both feet. Your song choice is ALL ABOUT personality...I'd choose a focal point at the start. Look up and out-over their heads, aim your glance at the back of the theater...not to the balcony however.
Periodically change your glance, perhaps with the start of a new verse... or to show change in thought.
kick ***.

Just relax it will be fine. You can look any where, but DON'T! Look at your feet or the ceiling. I hope that this helped.

a tilo tea (mexican herb)

GOOD LUCK TO YOU

my music teacher told me to picture your skull while singing ...try it cause' it might help. though it doesn't work for me.

Practice Practice Practice!!! Get lots of rest tonight. Drink a hot tea with lemon in the morning. Sing from your heart. Focus on something BEHIND the judges. You will do fine! BEST WISHES!
