Question:I was going to get a simba clarinet to start off on, and then work up to a better brand once I learn the clarinet. What do you know about this brand, and do you have any history with it?

I agree with B Cooper. These do NOT stand up well - you will be incredibly frustrated by the instrument constantly being broken - and the construction is so bad, of soft metal, that they CANNOT be adequately repaired. You are far better served getting a USED clarinet of a good brand - I like Yamaha as well as LeBlanc and some others . Do NOT buy something off eBay because it is cheap - you will be VERY SORRY. I buy flutes from eBay - but I am an expert, and VERY VERY picky. If you absolutely HAVE to buy something new but off-brand - then the *best of the worst* are First Act - they are really trying to rise above the morass of cheapie imported instruments. Also, try Orpheus Music in Texas - these are American-made, and designed to be competitive with foreign imports in price. No, I do not work with or for them!

As far as I have heard this is not a good brand. If you are looking for a student clarinet. Try yamaha or Leblanc
