How can you tell if you can sing good or not?

Question:I don't want to embarrass myself and sing in front of a whole bunch of people and I can't sing good. So how do I know if i can sing good or not without singing in front of anyone?

I believe that as long as you look confident and pretend to know what you are doing then you can pass off anything... in this case you can pass off as a good singer, whether that is true or not, as long as you believe in yourself.

its not really about how well you sing, its the energy you bring. my buddy sings all kind of 80's hair band songs and he sucks!!! but for some reason he rocks the house!

That's the only way you'll know for sure. Sing in front of someone that you can trust so he/she can give you an honest opinion.

record yourself singing and then listen to it, you'll be able to tell

try recording yourself, be it on your computer, on your cell phone, or a tape recorder if you have one. Play it back, and if you honestly think you sing well, then you do!

Well, you just said so yourself...and you cant sing good?

record yourself!! you sound so much different to what you are hearing. I thought I wasn't a brilliant singer but that i could hold a tune but when i recorded myself i found that i had a horrible singing voice, im not saying that is what you will find but at least you will get a better picture. And don't listen to family of friends beause you can never know if they are telling the truth, my fiance told me i could sing.
