2. Study poetry, rhyming, lyrics, verses, etc.
3. Practice writing your own lyrics
4. Read the dictionary and Thesaursus for more word building skills.

Read a lot of books on anything and everything. The more you read the wider you're vocabulary becomes. It's also a lot easier to become inspired if you are exposed to a bunch of different things. The hardest part is having something to talk about, and then you have to put it into words. Anyone can write lyrics (look at pop music), but truly great Lyricists know how to phrase things in order to evoke the exact emotions they are feeling.

Study and read poems. Practice on synonyms.
