Position:Home>Performing Arts> Is it easy to play the Drums?

Question:Maybe not in the beginning. You might have little trouble. But that's normal. I think everyone does that at first. Then you keep on trying and trying to get the beat down. When I started playing at 16. I had trouble holding onto the sticks, losing them when I played. It really comes down to how co-ordinated you really are. Playing drums means you are : using all 4 of your limbs for 4 different things; all at the same time.
It can be confusing sometimes. But as long as you keep the basic drum beat going all through out the song. You should be fine and get better at it with lots of pratice. I hope this helped a little. Good luck

You need good co-ordination as you'll use both hands and both feet to play a drum kit.

I don't know but it would be nice to try.

You need to have good rhythm. If you haven't got this, you can only be a totally amateur drummer, just playing basic rhythms that you've learnt off by heart.

depends on what level, you need a basic sense of rhythm i guess.

i tried on my brothers and it is really hard, mayby it me but i cant do it good luck trying

To be an accomplished drummer it takes a lot of practice, just like any other instrument, to reach a high standard. The best drummers really drive the band along.

yes, you just hit them

It's easy to just bash away at them, but if you want to learn properly I would take lessons. Most music shops will have adverts for places giving drum lessons. You need to be quite well co-ordinated and have a good sense of rhythm and timing.

You need to be able to hold a beat and there's a certain kind of coordination needed since you need to be able to do different things with each hand at the same time. It is much more difficult than it looks.

It is like all thing you want to do. If you take the time to learn it. It will get easier and you will sound better to over time.

It depends how well you want to play them. If you have very basic hand/feet co-ordination you could learn to play a few different rhythms within a week.

You'll find that as time goes on, and providing you play regularly, you'll get better co-ordination and speed, and adapt better techniques for the music you play.

It's quite easy to bash out something half decent, but to play the drums properly will require plenty of tuition and plenty of practice.

I learnt to play the keyboard from the age of 7 (now 29), and joined a band when I was 14. I have dabbled in other instruments for a bit of fun, including bass guitar and drums usually under the guidance of another band member! The musical understanding I already had helped me to quickly learn the basics, so I can play these ok, but not to any great standard - enough to get away with, but not enough to be in a band.

Best advice to you is to take say 10 lessons, get the basics right and then join a start-up band with people who like the same music as you.

no

It depends on your personal abilities and interests. I love drums, but rather than a full drum kit, I actually play the bodhran (thats the traditional Irish goatskin drum). A friend of mine plays the guitar easily, (which I would love to do, and cant) but cannot get on with my bodhran.

For any kind of drumming, a sense of rythym, is vital.

you need good co-ordination and a good ear for music which i have not got ,but i would love to play the drums ... :)

I wouldn't say its easy, but when you get used to certain movements it is alot easier, I have diyspraxia, I've only had 3 lessons yet I'm the best in my group and the other 2 have had 5 lessons because lessons have only just started and I was busy two of the lessons, and I can play quite fast too.

Get some and practice, practice and practice.
Look on Youtube for tutoring.

not sure hun but would give it a good go

If you have a good sense of rhythm, you'll be able to play it. Co-ordination you develop as time goes on, but it helps to have that from the start. If you can drive a car with a clutch, though, you will cope with drums. It is much much easier than learning an orchestral instrument like the violin or piano.
