Position:Home>Performing Arts> Brak wants to know, "Why is it called the Nutcracker Suite"?

Question:The Nutcracker is a fairy tale ballet, by Tchaikovsky.

The ballet features a young girl with her family at Christmastime. She receives a gift from her godfather, which is a toy Nutcracker of course. It is in the traditional shape of a soldier in full regalia. She is overjoyed, but her brother is jealous, and breaks the Nutcracker. Some time later the Nutcracker comes to life and saves the girl from the evil Mouse King.

He is the hero in the story, so that's why is it called the Nutcracker Suite. (A suite is an organized set of instrumental or orchestral pieces normally performed at a single sitting, as a separate musical performance.)

Hope this helps.
