Scott Tennent's "Pumping Nylon" (ISBN-13: 978-0739024034) is a good reference for holding, finger placement, etc. It's geared toward the classical guitarist (see the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet to hear the author!), but if total shred is your goal, then the previous answer is best. Also good is Frederick Noad's "Solo Guitar Playing" (ISBN-13: 978-0825694004). It's still best to take a few lessons - like once per month for 6 months or so. Starting lessons does not require a marriage license. Learn what you need and jet.
