Position:Home>Performing Arts> Intermediate/advanced piano pieces?Question: Intermediate/advanced piano pieces?im in about level 5 i think, but i dont play out of lesson books anymore because i need to get a new teacher very soon. do you know any piano pieces that would be good for me to play. i like classical stuff like moonlight sonata, phantom of the opera and memory from cats, but im looking for something a little bit more challenging like hungarian rhapsody. i know many by motzart, beethoven and such but i would like some more variety =] thanks! Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I think you should probably wait to tackle the Hungarian Rhapsody, so here is a list of songs that you will need to finish before trying your selection : Schubert, impromtus op. 90, no. 1,3,4 Haydn Sonata in e-minor ( especially the first and second mov'ts. Perhaps even the Kuhlau books of sonatinas ( there are 2) would help you under stand the Sonata Allegro form) Mozart, Fantasie in dm and cm (kv 475) Brahms, Capriccio in dm, no. 3 op. 116 Liszt Nocturne no. 2 and Consolation no.2 This is a preliminary list that should take you some time, but the pieces will definitely put you beyond level 5. I would recommend starting with the Mozart Fantasie (dm) and then the Schubert Inpromtus. You may also want to look into the Schumann "Papillions", as a great study exercise. I think from you "level 5" comment you are in NYSSMA, so if you are and live in the hudson valley region, I HIGHLY recommend using the staff at Kingston Conservatory of Music. Please let me know if I can be of more help. sforzando227@yahoo.com Source(s): Music major in Piano performance, and sacred music. pieces in encore! books are pretty good. bagatelle in e flat is simple but challenging some chopin waltzes are easy but have technical stuff |
