Question:

Selling performance rights for a script....?

Our theatre company has a couple of scripts which we have written ourselves - a panto, and a historical comedy which we have performed to good reviews... we are considering making the performance rights available to others, come next spring. How should we go about this?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The most obvious choice would be to go through traditional publishing venues such as Samuel French http://www.samuelfrench.com and Dramatists Play Service http://www.dramatists.com to see if they carry anything like what you have written. Also consider picking up a copy of the Dramatists Sourcebook, published annually by TCG, to take a look at their selection of publishers to see if any of them meet your needs.

Failing that, consider publishing them yourself. Since you have an existing theatre company mechanism, you can use people you already have in place to handle licensing requirements, and most good-quality printing services can produce simple square-bound acting editions, which you can sell through book distributors such as Ingram.
