Question:

Cello audition for University?

I am 16 and Im going to go to university on Cello. I was wondering if there is a website that shows all of the pieces that individual american univerties require. I was also wondering if america is a better place than Berlin for music conservatories.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: All the Americans will be speaking up for their Universities, but Europe has some of the world's most renowned and respected conservatoires, and you're likely to be able to get some kind of EU grant or scholarship if you want to study there. As for cello music for your auditions, I'd speak to your teacher about that. There are the old classics: Elgar's Cello Concerto - one or two movements from that rather than the whole thing, a movement from Bach's 6 unaccompanied suites, Saint-Saens The Swan, a movement from Haydn's Cello Concerto in D, or you might like to try something a bit different like Ravel's Habanero for cello & piano, Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei, Shostakovich's Sonata for cello & piano. You'll want something to show off your technique and range, and something to show them your more expressive sensitive emotive playing.

Best of luck!!
