Question:

Are there any specific musicians being commemorated in 2007?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Let's see.... 2006 was such a big year for commemoration!!

This is what I've been able to dig up:

***Cab Calloway (jazz musician) b. 1907
***Edgar Elgar b. 1857 (his 150th!)
Johann Rist (composer) b. 1607
Jacques Danican Philidor (composer) b. 1657
***Dietrich Buxtehude (german composer... this is the guy that Bach travelled countless miles on foot to hear!) d. 1707
***Jeremiah Clarke (english composer) d. 1707
Handel composed his first opera in 1707
Antonia Bartolomeo Bruni (composer) b. 1757
***Ignaz Pleyel (austrian composer) b. 1757
***Scarlatti died in 1757
1807: first performance of Beethoven's 4th Symphony
Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka (Russian Composer) d. 1875
Ruggiero Leoncavallo (Italian composer) b. 1857
***Carl Czerny (austrian pianist/composer) d. 1857
Ferdando Previtali (composer) b. 1907
***Henry Leland Clarke (composer) b. 1907
Miklos Rozsa (movie composer) b. 1907
Johnny Hodges (jazz musician) b. 1907
Gene Autry (singing cowboy) b. 1907

That's about it for things that may be commemorated this year. The ones with "***" are the ones that I'm guessing will be noted.

The ones that really stick out in my mind are Elgar and Pleyel.
