Phantom of the opera question...?

i want to know exactly what does the woman and the phantom mean by "keep your hand at the level of your eyes" i thought it ment because if the phantom tries to strangle you the lasso might go over your arm too and you can easily take it off but im not sure can anyone help me?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You're exactly right, it is to be able to help keep the Phantom from strangling you. It goes into more detail in the book. Erik (the Phantom) worked for the Sultan of Persia before he came to the Opera House (he grew up outside of France- the movie is just a romantic version if the story, there was no rescue by teenage-Madame Giry). He built the palace, specifically the torture chamber. In Persia he mastered the deadly art of the Punjab, a deadly little rope that can kill almost instantly if it gets around your neck. Hence, if you want to live around Erik, "keep your hand at the level of your eyes" so he can't catch it around your neck and strangle you. Friendly, huh? Hope this helps.
