Question:

Pianists - When you play a song, do you create a storyline to go along with the melody?

Sometimes if I need to play with a certain type of mood in a classical piece (for example, one by Brahms or Debussy), I will create a mini story to help me portray that mood.

Just wondering if I was the only one, or if others did the same!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hi Linda,
I definetly agree with you on that one - creating a story is a great way to help me play it better. However, I don't so much create a story as I do a picture/setting. Then I put dynamics and ritards where I want to portray things, and it helps me play with a lot more emotion. My piano teacher had one fat, curious, and grumpy cat and his sister, a very timid gentle cat. So, on one piece where there was an immense variety in styles she told me that the one section was like George, and the other was like Gracie. That helped me to play it so much better! Play well!
