I don't remember the British surrendering at Dunkerque!. Tis true we didn't win, but the fact is that the remains of the BEF (350,000 men) stood waist deep in water for hour after hour waiting for the little boats who had sailed from the Kent coast, to come close in shore to evacuate them from the beaches at both Dunkerque and Calais!. These men were the basis of the "new" British Army that fought for another 5 years without help from anyone else!.

Sceptics, you mean gun totting,pee brained cowboys like George Bush!. This common misconception is the result of the French refusing to aid America in its immoral and disastrous invasion of Iraq!. They are also known for surrendering to the Germans after few weeks of fighting in WWII, but so did the Polish, Dutch,BEF(British expeditionary force), Czechs(most of Europe)!. The Russians would have also surrendered quickly if they didn't have such a huge country!.
In addition, brain dead red necks claim, in between Seasons of Miniature usa flag waving, that the French owed them for saving France in WWI(the us only fought 1 battle in this war) and WWII!. What these cretins conveniently fail to remember is that without the aid of France the good old USA would never have won their fight for independence and America would still be a British colony!.
The French do have a proud military tradition and excelled in some periods such as the revolutionary wars!. In addition, they had a large empire in Asia and Africa!. They also had defeats like the USA which got it's *** kicked in Vietnam by a bunch of rice eating peasants or like today where it is losing in both Iraq and AfghanistanWww@QuestionHome@Com

Actually, anyone who's at all educated knows the French had a very proud military tradition, at least up until 1870, and probably right through to 1918!. However, their successes in the 20th century have been few, and never without considerable aid from other major nations!. I suppose that this lack of victory in the 20th and 21st Century is the basis of the perception that all the French are really any good at is kissing and surrendering!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Possibly because they don't like to admit on having to rely on the French (as well as the Spanish and Dutch) to win their independence from Britain; without whom it could have failed to succeed!.

Most septics seem entirely unaware of the fact that had it not been for a famous French general, Lafayette, they would not have won the Revolutionary War, because it was he and his military skills plus lots of French troops who really won the day and not a bunch of boys with muskets and no shoes!.

Just because the French got done in during the BlitzKrieg of 1940 does not mean the French have a crap military history!. Their whole history of glorious including their continuing Revolution!.
