my IB History teacher gave it to my class, and she's really picky about the internet!.

the stalemate was when there was no movement / gain of land during trench warfare!.!.!. both sides would gain some land, but lose it again because of the poor conditions and different technologies which were introduced during this time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

WW1 was accented by 'trench warfare'!. Both sides had developed many, many miles of fortified trenches that prohibited ground advancement!. With air warfare being very primitive, the ariel bombardment of WW2 was not possible!.
also, machine guns and artillery were effectively used to prohibit the advancement of ground troops, therefore the battlefields were static for many months, ie in stalemate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stalemate in chess is when you are left with neither side able to win!. In WWI neither side(s) had ability to declare victory, the tank and air support weren't developed enough to render either side mobile over the other so they both sides agreed to an Armistice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stalemate is when the two sides are not really advancing or getting pushed back behind their lines!. They are kind of stuck in the same area of battle for a while!. Most of the time this will cause a war to stalemate where no one wins!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is a nicely organized site on WWI!.

Trench Warfare!. It was said that once they started building them neither side could go far therefore the war became a stalemate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A stalemate is where both sides just keep going at it with attacks and stuff but no one is winning cuz of equal numbers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No ground gained by either side and the same number of casualties on both side!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe it means a point in the War where neither side could do anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
