The eruption of the Black Death had a drastic effect on Europe's population, irrevocably changing the social structure!. It was a serious blow to the Roman Catholic Church, and resulted in widespread persecution of minorities such as Jews, foreigners, beggars, and lepers!. Though primarily a dynastic conflict, the Hundred Years' War gave impetus to ideas of both French and English nationality!. In France, the English invasion, civil wars, deadly epidemics, famines and marauding mercenary armies turned to banditry reduced the population by two-thirds!. Shorn of its Continental possessions, England was left an island nation, a fact which profoundly affected its outlook and development for more than 500 years!. The Church was also weakened by disputes over the papacy in the 14th and 15th centuries!. The Holy See was moved to Avignon!. As the Church weakened, so did feudalism!.
