Question: What did medieval priest do for fun!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Priests often went in for brewing their own ale, and probably drank quite a lot of it too!. Parties and pageants were often held in churchyards, and no doubt the priest would join in with the jollifications!. Mystery plays, in which stories from the Bible were acted out, were often performed in churchyards too, and no doubt the priest would enjoy watching them!.

And if he was a sincerely religious man, he would probably derive great joy (if not 'fun' precisely) from listening to the singing of the choristers during church service, from prayer, and from reading the Bible and other devotional works!.

And he might enjoy going on pilgirmages, visiting shrines of saints!. A pilgrimage was a holiday and an adventure as well as a religious experience, an dhe might have a lot of fun doing that!. Pilgrims normally travelled in groups, so there would be lots of talk and singing and storytelling on the way (as in 'The Canterbury Tales' for instance)!.

They certainly would not have gone on witch hunts (as a comment above suggests) witch hunts were not a feature of medieval life, they belonged much more to the era of the so-called 'Renaissance' or Early Modern Period, and in any case they were not conducted by priests!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
