Question: Did Eustace Of Boulogne have a just claim to the throne of England in 1066!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Because of his relationship by marriage (he'd married Edward the Confessor's sister), Eustace certainly seems to have had as much claim to the English throne as had Harold of Wessex (whose sister had married Edward the Confessor)!. However, he doesn't seem to have made much of this and supported William's invasion on 14 October 1066, fighting at Hastings!. In 1067, Eustace was encouraged by some inhabitants of Kent to invade England himself, and he besieged Dover castle!. It appears, though, that he soon lost interest in the campaign and returned home, leaving the remaining besiegers to their unsuccessful siege!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

His first wife was Goda, daughter of the English king ?thelred the Unready, and sister of Edward the Confessor!. I'm not sure this makes a legitimate claim, but that was his connection to the crown!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
