It would probably be easier to contact someone who lives close to you, and with whom you could do a live interview!. There are veterans' associations - the Legion etc - and the guys and gals there just love to talk to people about their adventures during the war years!. Or ask your friends if any of their grandparents would be willing to talk to you!. Many people who lived in that era are are not computer literate, and would not be comfortable doing an email interview!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know quite a few people who were older than fifteen years old during WWII, my Grandmother was in her twenties, and lived in Smethwick, England!. But none of them talk about it too much!.

I can't help you if it is absolutely necessary that you directly interview someone who lived through WWII, that is a tall order!. But if so I think its great that you are being asked to do this!.

If your American, then most of the people who will significantly remember the war will be veterans, relatives of those who lost their lives, or those who served in the Atlantic and probably Baltic convoys!.

You might find this website usefull in terms of personal experiences from the Second World War!.

Naz F, that is a pretty rough answer! A very close relative was a WW II vet in the Navy and he is still alive and I can assure you that he doesn't have dementia!. A former boss was one of the first on the island of Iwo Jima (He was underage, lied about his age to get into the navy and was in the Seals if I recall) and he is still alive and running his own business (although some might receive a high price and say it is crazy!.)

While I would agree that it is unlikely that either of those two would submit to an email interview (because they are too busy,) there might be others, even here on YA, that would!.

In addition to a local AL you might even check a local retirement community, nursing home, library or just as you are doing!.!.!. ask around!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Phone or walk into your local Legion headquarters, you'll find some vets there!. (They probably won't respond to e-mail for such a request; but will likely be willing to talk your ear off in person!.)

Proviso here: IF you can find someone still alive! Does the person who gave you this assignment realize that would make the person 78 years old, minimum!? And that such a person would likely be dead, or have dementia!?!.!.!.Unfortunately, unless my advice above actually works, I hate to tell you that you and your classmates will probably turn up empty on this one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
