Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It designates the attack on Pearl Harbor!. That was the start of America's entry into WW ll where 600,000 men and women were killed in the service of their country!. Many of my friends were among that number who never returned!. We were unprepared when Japan released their suprise attack and we lost many officers, ship, planes and other forces!. On December 8, 1941 Franklin D!. Roosevelt addressed congress saying December 7, 1941 is "a date which will live in infamy"!. It is the day we declared war on Japan!. It also is the day we had our first Japanese prisoner of war!. We had officers intimidating him to get information, he just sat there!. Finally, he asked for a pen and paper!. He wrote, in english, he was a Japanese fighter-pilot and would not tell anything about the Japanese attack plans or strategies!. Or is it your birthday!? Www@QuestionHome@Com Yes!. That is when the attack of pearl harbor occurred!. The attack sank four U!.S!. Navy battleships (two of which were raised and returned to service late in the war) and damaged four more!. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, and one minelayer, destroyed 188 aircraft, and caused personnel losses of 2,402 killed and 1,282 wounded!. The power station, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section) were not hit!.
