Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
yes they did!. On Dec 24, 1914, There was an unofficial truce called the Christmas Truce, German, British, and French troops would exchanged wine, cognac and cigarettes, Westphalian black bread, biscuits and ham!. with each other!. This story is carried into popular culture!. British folk singer Mike Harding related the story in his song "Christmas 1914", as did American folk singer John McCutcheon in his "Christmas in the Trenches" and American country music singer Garth Brooks in his "Belleau Wood"!. In 1967, The Royal Guardsmen had a #1 hit with "Snoopy's Christmas", which relates a similar story through the struggle of Snoopy and The Red Baron!. On 11 November 2008, a memorial was unveiled in Frélinghien, France, the site of a Christmas Truce football game in 1914!. After the unveiling and a Service of Remembrance, men from 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh (The Royal Welch Fusiliers) played a football match with the German Panzergrenadier Battalion 371!. The Germans won, 2-1!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It certainly is true, but it was not all the soldiers, and it was not all of the trenches!. It was a spurious truce, with some areas falling silent, and the opposing armies playing football, conducting funerary rites and fraternising with the enemy!. In other areas, men were shot, or threatened with execution if they did not follow orders to continue firing at the enemy!.

It happened only on the one Christmas, and was only on the one day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes its true!. im learning about it in school!. we watched a video on it & they said the soldiers of the trenches on Christmas day did not fight!. They had an sort of truce only for christmas!. They gathered on no man's land & sort of came together!. They knew the war was going to go on longer then they expected, so they had a truce, the next day the war would go on though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually they had quit fighting long before Christmas day, as the warfare was at a stalemate!. At that point they were actually playing soccer between themselves!. After Christmas both sides brought in fresh troops who didn't realize the pointlessness of it and a return to battle began!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe this is true and that they actually moved out of the trenches and socialised with the enemy for a timeWww@QuestionHome@Com
