Question: History Question!!!!!! Easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 points!!!!!!!!!?
Why do you think the British found it easier to capture American cities than to take over the American countryside!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

For the same reason the Japanese conquered Chinese cities but not the countryside during the Sino-Japanese war (!937-45): It was easier for the native-born militia troops to operate in the countryside where they could use hit-and-run tactics and then melt back in to the local populace!. Guerrilla tactics are impossible in cities!. also, cities are susceptible to bombardment with heavy artillery, and the inhabitants of cities are more likely to surrender quickly o avoid civilian casualties!. Lastly, it's easy to encircle and take a city (for a regular army), but the countryside has no borders, an invading army can never fully 'capture' it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The American Revolution was, by and large, a guerrilla war!. Washington, Arnold, and the other Continental Army generals led relatively professional forces, true, but by and large the bulk of the American side was town militiamen!. Standing against professional British redcoats on the field of battle, these militia units were pretty useless, but utilizing hit-and-run tactics they were quite effective!. They could easily overwhelm any garrisons that British armies left in small towns and fortresses in passing, and often did!. After all, Washington got his cannon after the Green Mountain Boys did just that at Fort Ticonderoga!.

It works this way in any guerrilla war!. The countryside is just too broad an area to keep under an occupier's thumb!. A similar experience was had in the Chinese Communists' war against Japan-in fact, Chairman Mao read Washington's works heavily for guidance in that war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The cities were more compressing ,usually on the shorelines or a body of water and there were many Loyalists in the cities than the countryside!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dense population for one!. And also that is where your leaders or government rules from!. Storming a farm does not have the same effect as storming a Capital!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The countryside is big, with no noticeable borders!. The cities are relatively small!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

More profit within a metropolitan area, less money in the little rural areas!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
