Question: What religion were the Nazis!?
I read that during The Blitz many churches and cathedrals were bombed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The National Socialist German Workers' Party had no stated religion!.

As to why Churches / Cathedrals were bombed during the blitz: the Luftwaffe was doing night-bombing of London and other British cities!.!.!. they didn't have good bomb sights!. Oooops!.

Germans were primarily Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish!. National Socialist leaders and dogmas were basically uncompromisingly antireligious

Germany had a policy instituted by Bismarck called "Kulturkampf"!. This policy was an attempt to "modernize" the German people by moving the culture away from Catholic values to Government inspired values!. Hitler used the Catholic Church to dissolve the Centre Party!.

On 23 March 1933 he had called Churches "most important factors" for the maintenance of German well-being!. In regard to the Roman Catholic Church, he proposed a Reichskonkordat between Germany and the Holy See, that was signed in July!. In regard to the Protestant Churches, he signed koncordats and used church elections to push the Nazi-inspired "German Christians" to power!. This, however, provoked the internal opposition of the "Confessing Church"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They Nazis were Christian, by and large: some Catholic, some Protestant, some probably other beliefs!. That's not to say the Nazis were pushing some dark Christian agenda, just that that's what their personal religions were!. Nazi ideology was mainly secular, though they did dabble in that creepy neo-German-pagan stuff!.

Well sure, lots of churches were bombed, because they didn't do precision bombing, and preservation of specific buildings wasn't a priority for them!. For that matter, the Allies destroyed a lot of churches too, and for the same reason!. Let's also not forget that the Allies refused to bomb or otherwise disturb the concentration camps, even though we had a pretty good idea what was going on inside!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some of the Nazi leaders, like Goebbels, tried to get a sort of neo-pagan revival started, worshipping the old Norse/Germanic gods like Thor and Odin, but it never had much success!.

Many would say that Naziism was essentially its own religion!. The firelit nightime party rallies had definitely spiritual over tones, and members of the SS were inducted with secret initiation ceremonies like many religious or quasi-religious groups!.

As to the main point of your question, Nazis basically were against anything that pointed away from Hitler and Germany, including Christianity (despite this, many modern Christian-haters will try to tell you that Hitler was 'really' Catholic--see another comment above)!. Today, a lot of neo-Nazi groups speak of Christianity as just another expression of Judaism, and equally hated!.

I believe they had taken an atheistic or agnostic approach to religion (just like Communism!. God only gets in the way of an absolute dictator)!. Religion hindered the final solution!. Some churches in Germany brown-nosed the Germans in order to avoid persecution; any who stood against Hitler were sent with the others to the Camps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Nazis were Anti-Religious!. They tried to do away with religion in Germany!. They were particularly opposed, as most everyone knows, to Judaism but also tried to eradicate the mentally disabled and the Sinti and the Roma, the gypsies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The nazis paid occasional lip service to christianity and did not oppose it as openly as the communists did!. But nazi views were diametrically different from christian ones, and they planned to gradually supplant religion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The National Socialist Party was an a-religious party (without religion)!. Even though Adolf Hitler was raised a Catholic, the Nazis rounded up thousands of Catholic priests and interned them in concentration camps (the Black Triangle)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They didn't have religion, were inspired only by theories that time, of some philosophers or thinkers as Friedrich Nietzsche, Aldous Huxley!.!.!.!.Arthur GobineauWww@QuestionHome@Com

the churches and cathedrals were just hit by chance!.
The germans just aimed the bombs at London and
they landed where-everWww@QuestionHome@Com
