Question: War or Conflict between Russia and Poland in the 1800's!?
Hey everyone,

I'm just doing a little research in family history, and I wanted to know if anyone knew of a conflict between Russia and Poland anywhere between the mid to late 1800's!.
Apparently my great-great grandfather was a Polish farmer on the border of Russian land!. He made a deal with the Russian soldiers that they could utilize his land for food and shelter, in return for protection!. I'm 16, and everyone in my family had children quite late in their life (my dad's 50), so I figuired the time for any conflict would be around then!.
Any information on this is welcome!. =)
Thanks in advance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm afraid you're giving too little data!. Poland as a country "ceased to exist" in 1795 to "reappear" in 1918!. Yet there were numerous uprisings, including the January Uprising in years 1863-65, which fits into the time frames you've put in the question!.
But if I may suggest something!.!.!. You say your dad is 50, which would mean he was born in 1958, assuming all your ancestors had children around the age of thirty, then your grandfather was born in 1928, and your great grandfather in 1898, with your great great grandfather thirty then!. Which would mean he was around forty at the beginning of WWI and fifty at the time of the Polish-Soviet war (1919-1921)!. Lets take a ten years tolerance!. I'd say it's highly probable that it was the last conflict mentioned!. Still it's also possible he was a Pole living near the border of Russia in either Austria-Hungary or Prussia before WWI and then it would be this conflict!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
