Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Yes, the Americans lost many battles in World War II!. Some examples include:
1!. Losing every battle with Japan until the Battle of Midway (this includes battles in the Philippines like Corregidor)!.
2!. Losing most battles in the North Africa, including the battle of Kasserine Pass in Tunisia!.
3!. Lost several battles in Italy, most notably the Battle of Anzio!.

The Americans were relatively inexperienced compared to everyone else, they were fortunate to have done as well as they did!. However, there were many battles in World War II and nobody was perfect!

There were battles the U!.S!. lost most of the time against the Germans there was a lot of back and forth, initially the battle of the bulge was a defeat for the U!.S!.but it turned into a great victory because the bulge didn't break!. In the Pacific Robert says the U!.S!. lost every battle before Midway but failed to acknowledge that Midway was just 6 months after Pearl harbor so losing every battle in the first 6 months isn't bad considering there was nothing but advancements in the Pacific for the last 3 years!. Yes, there were battles that were initially lost such as the ones already mentioned!. What I find strange about marina rat's anti-American rant is that this person equates the total number of loses during the war with how much impact on the war a nation had!. Of course the fact that it is a new account speaks volumes, trolls don't answer with old accounts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

EDIT: Robert raises some controversial points I'd like to address!.!.!.

Robert said that the US lost all of its battles to the Japanese before Midway!. Well, maybe, it all depends!.!.!.

If you wanted to call the Battle of the Coral Sea a US defeat, you might be correct on a purely tactical level!. But from a strategic level it was a far greater Japanese defeat, as it prevented them sending ground troops to take Port Moresby!. From that standpoint this battle marks the end of Japanese Advance in the South Pacific; and that is important!. Taking both arguments into account, historians view Coral Sea as a draw that hurt the Japanese more than the Americans!.

So, on one level, I think Robert is right, and I concede the point, but the strategic situation was far too nuanced to apply a simple Victory or Defeat judgment!.

On the Battle of Anzio!. I'm sorry , but this was not an American defeat!. A good plan was botched, and it ended with a stalemate that eventually resulted in an allied victory!. Defeat is measured by surrender or quitting the battlefield more bloodied for the experience!. The Americans neither surrendered nor quit the battlefield!. Stalemate turned to victory!? Yes!. Defeat!? No!. Sorry!.

Certainly!.

The first battle of Kasserine Pass (North Africa) in 1943!. Rommel Kicked butt!.

Corregidor in the Phillipines was also a terrible defeat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The US lost in the Pacific: the Philippines, Wake Island, Guam!.
In the European- North African theater: Kasserine Pass, and the Hurtgen Forest just north of the Ardennes!.
The Germans stopped the Americans cold at Hurtgen Forest, the Americans losing thousands of men to little gain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The battle of Wake Island in the Pacific!. The Japs ran us out of the Philippines too, early on in the War!. Market Garden in Europe wasn't very successful either!. Those are the only major ones I can think of!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sure!.!.!. the PHILIPPINES!.!.!. that is why MacArthur got on the Sub and headed for Australia!.!. but he DID say!.!.!. "I'LL BE BACK"!.!.!. just before he headed for safety

Have you never heard of CORRIGADOR or the BATAAN DEATH MARCH!.!.!. those were not good times for the Amerikan army!.

AmeriKans were tossed back into the sea by the French when they tried to land in North Africa!.!. they were driven back to the sea in Sicily and they almost lost Italy!.

Contrary to the AmeriKan memories of WW2!.!.!. THEY DIDN'T WIN THE WAR ALONE!.!.!. They didn't even have the most casualties!.!.!. the RUSSIANS lost MORE SOLDIERS in just ONE BATTLE early in WW2 than AmeriKa lost DURING THE ENTIRE WAR!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
