There is (unacknowledged, by the Greeks) influence upon them from Egypt!. This is visible in architecture: Greek columns are fluted, to look like Egyptian columns; which were bundles of papyrus reeds!. Lions in fountains are Egyptian inventions; the idea being that the lion would chew up evil spirits and spit them out as water!. (as you can tell, you can't find lions in Greece; though there were some in the Middle East!.) Greeks also learned from the Egyptians how to make huge monuments out of stone!. The first important Greek sculpture was the 'kouros', or striding man, based on Egyptian models!.

There are also many parallels between the Egytian's main myth, of Horus, and that of the Greek Hercules!.

If there are that many parallels between Greece and Egypt, there are probably many more; but the Greeks just won't admit where they got their inspiration from!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
