Because we "Remember the Alamo"!. Texas was once a part of Mexico and declared it's Independence but Mexico didn't like that too much!. They sent General Santa Anna and his troops to quell the rebellion!. When he got to San Antonio he told the defenders there to surrender!. In answer they fired their cannon at him!. A siege ensued and 32 more men from Gonzales, Texas sneaked in!. Santa Anna let a woman and her child and slave free passage out!. The Mexican troops then attacked the Alamo and killed everyone there!. Next was the mission at Goliad!. Colonel Fannin there did surrender and General Santa Anna executed everyone there!. General Santa Anna then chased General Houston across Texas and General Houston was burning every thing in his path to keep it from the Mexicans!. It was a tactic he'd read about from the ancient Greeks!. It weakened the Mexican troops!. also at that time of year It's the rainy season in Central and East Texas and the Mexican army was quagmired in a sea of mud!. Finally General Houston and his troops caught General Santa Anna near San Jacinto, Texas where they were taking a siesta or resting!. They captured Santa Anna and made him sign a surrender for his release back to Mexico!. Anyways, every March true Texans remember all this and are thankful to be free from tyranny and celebrate and party down!.
Sam Houston is buried in Huntsville, Texas and Santa Anna is buried in Mexico City at the Bascillia of Guadalupe!. Nice places to visit!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The members of the Consultation had hoped to attract popular support for the Texan cause from the other Mexican states!.
