They were repentant about all the evil they had done, and trust me there was a lot of hanky panky going on during that time!. fact: there was a female shortage so homosexuality was almost the norm in the cities!. So back to the plague!. People turned to religion to help find comfort or solace!. There also a group called Flagellants who basically traveled through europe flogging themselves paying for their sins!. If you think about it, this is a normal reaction!. I don't understand what you mean by "brought religion together"!. Most of the efforts to bring different protestant sects back together are from the 20th century!. --- However, you could understand how having a third of your countrymen die would bring about religous fervor!. There were small towns where only a single priest remained alive!.
