well, back then people thought that the plague was God's way of telling them that the end was near!. They were repentant about all the evil they had done, and trust me there was a lot of hanky panky going on during that time!. fact: there was a female shortage so homosexuality was almost the norm in the cities!. So back to the plague!. People turned to religion to help find comfort or solace!. There also a group called Flagellants who basically traveled through europe flogging themselves paying for their sins!. If you think about it, this is a normal reaction!. People always turn to religion when there is something that they cannot explain!. Hope this helps to get you started on your research!. Search for these terms and people: Flagellants, Thomas Aquinas, Decameron!. Good Luc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There seems to be two different questions here!.
---
Although the plague hit different parts of europe many times, the ultra virulent form that struck in the mid 14th century is known as the "black death" !.
---
The protestant movements began in the 16th century!. I don't understand what you mean by "brought religion together"!. Most of the efforts to bring different protestant sects back together are from the 20th century!.
---
However, you could understand how having a third of your countrymen die would bring about religous fervor!. There were small towns where only a single priest remained alive!. People thought it was the end of the world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well the black death was one of the worst plagues ever, so naturally, people were praying profusely!. I would say that some groups of religion got so big, they just naturally influenced other people in the same religion!. Ever heard of lead crosses!? they were mass produced during the plague!.
I didn't actually research this for you (-; just a guess!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whenever anything bad happens, people turn to religion because they are too dumb/weak/whatever to do anything for themselves!.

If you put your trust in "god" and nothing happens/gets fixed, well, that's not YOUR fault, right!?

That's religions role in everything, a scapegoat for personal weakness and failure!.

People that think that "God" caused something to happen to "Punish" people tend to feel that they survived not through luck!.!.!. But through the will of their god of choice!.!.!.

Feeling as if your god is actually taking a hand in your life can make you feel pretty good about that god so that tends to move survivors towards fanaticism!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
