IN the beginning the powers of the US federal government were vastly limited in power!. The state governments held the majority of power!. As the USA progressed that has changed!. Now the government is involved in almost every aspect of peoples lives today and naturally everyone wants to forward there own ideas creating more and more legislation!. When the party of the Executive office is supported by the same party as the legislative then far less veto's are produced, when political opposition exist between these branches of government then naturally more veto's are produced!.

Well a President would veto a bill if the house and the senate were being controlled by an another political party other than the President's!. The bill would not agree with the party lines of the President!. And The President would veto a bill if the Opposing party does not have 2/3 control of the house and senate, otherwise the bill would be overturn into law!.

I would give a example!. This upcoming bill will be on the desk of the President after Jan 20 when a new President is sworn in!. The bill is called "Employee Free Choice Act" It basically cut all the red tape when a company becomes unionized!. Some companies would use the red tape to fire union members from their companies, so they won't be force to be unionized!. John Mc Cain will veto this bill if he wins!. He voted on the right to work (for less) bills and bills that limited worker's rights!.
However if The Democrats wins 60 seats in the senate and 359 seats in the house, the Employee Free Choice Act can be overturn into law!.
This upcoming election is going to be one of the most important elections in this country's history!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because the more "modern" government is more into "micro-managing" your life and what goes on here than the earlier government was!.
