Question: Why didn;t ancient people just take a boat across the Bering Straight and discover America!?
Seriously, it seems so close!. Is it farther apart than it apears, is the water rough, were they afraid to go on it like people were the Atlantic Ocean before Columbus's time!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Simply, the water was too unfriendly!. Have you ever watched the Discovery Channel's The Deadlisest Catch!. The crew of fisherman constantly have to cope with storms and rough weather in the Bering Sea!. This is with modern boats!. Older, primitive vessels wold have been no match for the rough sea weather that close to the Arctic Circle!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because they didn't need a boat!. Ancient peoples just walked across the land bridge that connected Siberia with Alaska and walked down the west coast all the way to Tierra del Fuego!. Those ancient peoples descendents of Siberians were to be called 'Indians' in America!.

The land bridge which had connected two continents, Asia and North America, eventually submerged with the ending of the last Ice Age with concurrent rising of the world's oceans!. After that, kayaks were used to travel the 50 mile gap (the Bering Strait) between Siberia and Alaska!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is fairly obvious isn't it!. They simply hadn't developed means of transportation over water, they knew they had a better chance of walking than swimming!. there only real transportation was their feet, they did not have vehicles or boats except possibly animals which is still highly unlikely!. actually some ancient people came out of Europe post Ice-age, and did make it to the Americas!. 1/2 percent of natives have the mtdna type X,which is handed down from the mother in an unbroken line!. this is a European haplogroup!. These people probably came out of an area near Russia!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Norse settled in Newfoundland, an island off Canada and Greenland!.

Perhaps the Chinese visited the West Coast of the Americas!.

But as you know, technology and location determined what peoples would get to the Americas first!.
