However, after the war, Churchill was regarded as a wartime leader and was dumped in the 'khaki election'!. He was a great man and Roy Jenkins wrote a cracking biography!. As a peacetime leader in the early 50's he struggled, but he was an old man by that time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. I think in part, Churchill lost elections after the war because of the decisions he had to make during the war and the hardships it placed on some people!. Coal miners forced back to work, workers who could not leave their jobs!.

He wouldn't have chucked the House of Lords!. What does it do now that it didn't do before, except cost the taxpayer more money to keep up!?

I seriously doubt the world would be in shape it's in today as he wouldn't have put up with the oil situation that's dragging down the whole world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Could you be thinking of Neville Chamberlain!? Churchill was well-known for his anti-appeasement stance!.

For all his positive attributes Churchill was not the man to lead Britain after the war and his attitudes and behaviour make it unlikely he would even be a back-bencher!. As a peacetime Prime Minister in 1951 his response to the break up of the Empire was to send in troops, or conspire in regime change in Iran – so maybe he would be equal to the task!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
