It took place from July 1-3, 1863!. The leaders for each side were Union General George Meade and Confederate General Robert E!. Lee!. The total casualties were approx!. 51,000 (23K Union, 28K Confederate) making it the bloodiest battle ever to occur on American soil!. The Union (North) won after Lee's somewhat desperate gamble on the third day (known as "Pickett's Charge") failed to break the Union line!. It is widely considered the turning point of the Civil War!.
