Question: Did ancient egyptians have last names!?
It has occurred that I have thought of another silly question!. I would think that if one ancient egyptian child had the same name as another ancient egyptian child it would be quite confusing!. So did they have last names or did they establish a name from parents!? Like "Joseph son of Tom" or "Jane daughter of Bob "!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ancient Egyptians did not use surnames!. For most people they were called by their given birth name only or to avoid confusion, their birth name followed by "son of" or "daughter of" and then their father's name!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes they might!. I actually learned this recently, in the middle ages people did not use last names!. Either they would use the town they came from like Tom of Essex or the occupation they had was more widely used like the guy who builds the houses would be Tom Builder or the butcher would have been John Butcher!. There are some customs that don't name kids after their parents!. I wonder if it came from that line of thinking!. I bet people got confused alot in those days!. And by the way, it was so not a silly question!. It actually was a cool question because names were so different from what we know now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
