The US Pacific Fleet was based in Pearl Harbor, and a majority of the British military operations were based out of Singapore, destroying both of those installations would almost guarantee that the Japanese Fleet would have supremacy in the Pacific!. As the US Navy would have to sortie out of San Diego or Los Angeles, and the Royal Navy would have to sortie out of possibly Australia or India!.

Churchill described the loss of Singapore as "The worst disaster and largest capitulation in British history!."

They were attacked simultaneously so as to not arouse suspicion of an impending Japanese assault!. If Singapore were attacked first, the US Navy would have been prepared at Pearl Harbor and vice versa!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
