Question: I wonder what America would be today if the events of the run-up to the war independence were different!?
I know the colonists wanted independence due to a tyrant English King who wanted to make his own laws and not defend the freedoms of English laws, however, what if the King gave the colonists everything they wanted and what if the French were the dominant power in the colonies of the North American continent!? Would America be as powerful as it is today!? Would there be a United States of America!? Would their culture be the dominant world culture if their main language was French when the rest of the world only knows English as the de facto world language!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the U!.S would be more like Canada if the King had given the colonists everything they wanted!. They would still be part of the Commonwealth and under supreme rule of the monarch!.
If the French were dominant, I don't know!. I think the U!.S still might have ended up as the democratic U!.S!. it is today!.!. or supposed to be!.
I think it would no way never ever be as powerful as it is today if it weren't for them gaining independence when they did!. They would still have been reliant on Britain and more ruined in the wars!.
And English is the dominant word culture language because of the British and the expansion of their empire- not the Americans!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the king was mad but no tyrant!. They wanted independance because they had no say in parliament!. If they did have a seat in parliament and didnt rebel, then they'ed probaly be a mirror image of canada - dominon status mid 19th century, retain close ties to UK untill WW2, branch out a bit after that but still have British Monarch as head of state!. And if the american colonies were french owned, then well you'd probaly have rebeled earlier!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The most likely outcome to your question is that the 13 colonies would simply have been added to an already expanding French domination in Canada and thus Americans today would be pretty much like French Canadians!.

Due to the French Revolution of 1790s there's no doubt that all the usual freedoms and liberties would have come to the whole of North America and quite quickly too!.

also, I doubt very much that the French would have allowed the bloodbath and wholesale slaughter of the Indians which seemed to take place from the 1800s on in the States!.

But hey, it's all conjecture!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If mad George had let them have representation in Parliament , And let Parliament decide a fair tax , they would most likely still be a British Satellite like AustraliaWww@QuestionHome@Com

What would you like me to say!? bearing in mind that any answer I give would be pure supposition based at best on guesswork!. Why don't you write a novel!? It would be as near to the truth as any answer given!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
