We can never forget, because it represents all wars, and war can never end!. You did not ask people to go to war for you, but they went to war anyway, because of an Austrian who was assassinated!. They died for their country and their family and friends, in a pointless war where there was never any aggression directed at our border!. That makes it all the sadder!. Personally, I am glad to remember those who fought and suffered and died to preserve freedom!. Poppies grow best when the ground has been disturbed, so when those brave men came home after WW1, the poppies grew in abundance for the first time in 4 years, which is why it is the adopted symbol of remembrance!.
