you have a disgraceful attitude; what a selfish individual you are!. you're invited to wear a poppy to show respect to those who have lost their lives in conflicts around the world!. It doesn't matter if you don't believe in the causes of wars past or present, it doesn't matter about your views on freedom, you are encouraged to pay your respects to those young men and women who sacrificed their lives in wars that they didn't believe in nor fully understood!. You're the worst kind of human being, you are the epitome of what is wrong with the world today - i hope you are proud of yourself!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Poppies are in memory of WWI and the soldiers who died in it, but it is also symbolic of all wars since then, and serves to remind us of those who fought and gave their lives for their country!. We can never forget, because it represents all wars, and war can never end!.
You did not ask people to go to war for you, but they went to war anyway, because of an Austrian who was assassinated!. They died for their country and their family and friends, in a pointless war where there was never any aggression directed at our border!. That makes it all the sadder!.
Try for a little human emotion!. A fifteen year old boy was buried in a mass war grave - don't you care!? Does that make you feel nothing!? The more we hold on to the memories of the atrocities committed by both sides, and in all wars since, the easier it will be to forge peace in the future!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You do not have to wear a poppy!.!.!.and those people who did die in wars whether you asked them to or not, did pay the ultimate sacrifice so you could make choices like this! By the way, they often did so without whining and complaining, and some did not want to do it at all!.!.!.and like every sane person I am not 'for' war, but ordinary people like me, often born at the bottom of the pile when it comes to privilege have fought for themselves, their family and their country when asked or told!.!.!.you don't know any, neither do I but I would thank everyone and give them my repsect, try it!

And if we can't remember, and learn from the past we will repeat mistakes that get millions killed!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Veterans like us are the ones who would know about the horror, filth, and devastation of war!. We're the only ones who know, so we HAVE to be the ones to speak out against it!!.

One of the reasons I was so sickened by Bush's rush to war was that he, and most of his staff, had never gone to war, would never go to war, had no children or grandchildren who would go to war, and didn't even know anybody whose children would go to war!. These fat-@ssed fat cats shelter thousands of miles from the battlefields and congratulate themselves on their winning the war! What awful, dissolute hypocrites!

Leave off the poppy all you want, mate; you earned the right!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a matter of personal choice, but the money raised helps to support in many ways those people who have been personally affected by war, whether they fought it, or were bereaved by it!. And it is not about just WW2, but every conflict since in which British troops have been involved!. If you choose not to contribute, that's fine, but don't you dare lecture the rest of humanity with your warped views!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You don't have to buy one or wear one if you don't want to, myself on the other hand am proud to wear one to honour our brave soldiers past and present, this country is fast forgetting who we really owe our freedom to, we are losing our identity and respect because we are no longer one people, we have been invaded by so many people who would wish to destroy who we are, one day you may need the help of these soldiers who you prefer not to care about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As far as I am aware, there is no law that says you have to wear a poppy!.

Personally, I am glad to remember those who fought and suffered and died to preserve freedom!. My uncle among them, who spent several horrific years working on the Burma Railway as a prisoner of the Japanese!.

To say that it would make no difference if we were all speaking German or Japanese now is ludicrous!. For a start, a great many of us woul dnot be here at all, as there would have been an enormous loss of life if Britain had been invaded by Germany!. People of all kinds would have been slaughtered without mercy!. The chances that you would exist, or that I would exist, or that Yahoo! Answers would exist for that matter, is very small!.

And do I call this freedom!? Yes, I do!. Compared to what life would have been like under a Nazi dictatorship, the modern world, with all its faults, it a picnic!.

I cannot understand at all why you think it does not matter that we won the war, but as I said, nobody is forcing you to wear a poppy if you do not want to!. Many people don't!. Frankly I think you are being a bit melodromatic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you feel no pride in the fact that someone has fought to keep your freedoms and to keep you safe, then please don't do it!. Your disrespect is apparent and your lack of patriotism is, too!. I would hope that noone would ever forget what has been done by our brave military, many who sacrificed their lives so you could have the freedoms you enjoy!. You are one ungrateful person but you live in the land of the free where you are able to voice your opinion!. You are blessed but you choose to be arrogant!. Please don't wear the poppy if you feel the way you do!. I am proud to wear the poppy and thank every single service man or woman who has served our Country and I will never forget!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your attitude saddens me rather than makes me angry!.

When you wear a poppy or display a wreath you honour the war dead and help ex-service personnel and their dependents!.
The basic purpose of poppy funds is to provide immediate assistance to ex-servicemen and women in need!. This may include food, shelter or medical attention for them or their families!. also bursaries are granted to children and grandchildren of ex-service personnel!.

This poem might make you rethink!. Written by John McCrae

Lieutenant-Colonel McCrae, worked from a dressing station on the bank of the Yser Canal, dressing hundreds of wounded and never removed his clothes for the entire 17 days!. At times the dead and wounded actually rolled down the bank from above his dugout!. At other times, while awaiting the arrival of batches of wounded, he would watch the men at work in the burial plots which were quickly filling up!. In time, McCrae and his unit were relieved and he wrote home " We are weary in body and wearier in mind!. The general impression in my mind is one of a nightmare"!.

Lieutenant-Colonel McCrae came away from Ypres with 13 lines scrawled on a scrap of paper!. The lines were a poem which started: "In Flanders fields the poppies blow!.!.!."

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below!.

We are the Dead!. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields!.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields!.

I bet you have a relation somewhere who died!. Poppies grow best when the ground has been disturbed, so when those brave men came home after WW1, the poppies grew in abundance for the first time in 4 years, which is why it is the adopted symbol of remembrance!.

We are now including the recent conflicts, and lets hope (if we haven't blown ourselves into oblivion) when we are long gone this will continue!.

The money raised assists all ex-service men and women, and it would not harm you to put few coins into the pot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things!. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse!. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself!. (John Stewart Mill)

Says it all really!!!!

You ignorant selfish little runt ! You better pray that you or any of your family never have to go to war!.
If it weren't for the men that went to battle between 1914-1945, you could well be speaking Japanese right now, or saluting a swastika in class!.

Learn some history !Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have a right not to where a poppy if you don't want to and if you don't want to don't!. I disagree, however, with the freedom thing!. I think we have alot of freedom and plenty to get on with for the time being!.
However please, show some respect for the dead!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

So far off the mark it is unbelievable!. Of course you don't have to and no one will bully you!. So don't!. Its a free world thanks to many!. I will wear one!. My grandfathers fought in WWII and after a few conversation with them you get a good idea, as far as a non combatant like me can!. Hat off to them I say, well done!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with you to a certain extent!. I put money in but I always refuse to take a poppy!.
Charity that is advertised like that is just self promotion
It's a disgrace that it should be necessary to collect money in this wayWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well dont but remember you would be speaking German today if it wasnt for those who gave their lives for your freedom!.!.!.You may not have even lived if germany won because they would have murdered anyone who they assumed was not perfect in their warped Nazi minds!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow! You are pretty brave saying that!.

Did you consider that you are exercising your right to freedom in saying this!? A freedom earned for you by those who died!? Your very existence is probably owed to those who died!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What a selfish attitude!. No, I didn't ask anyone to fight for me either but they did, hundreds of thousands died for us to have the freedoms we have today!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ok so who is exactly bullying you!? If you feel so strongly about it don't wear one!. I for one will, and I don't think badly of those who don't!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't normally wear one - but I bung a few quid in the boxes!. What I hate are the politicians and newsreaders who constantly wear fresh ones - no they do not buy them themselves,Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dont wear one then!.

The money rised from the selling of poppies goes to help wounded ex service men!.

If you dont want to help them, dont buy one either!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
