The French started the construction of the Panama Canal in 1880 up to 1889 when they abandoned it!. The American started the construction in early 1903 until its completion in 1914!. Here's a quote from Wikipedia on the subject!.

"The Panama Canal is a man-made canal in Panama which joins the Pacific and Atlantic oceans!.
