Henry Clay's American system was a system of taxes and tariffs to improve roads, railroads, and canals with the intention to connect the United States more efficiently!. He was also trying to secure a national banking system to stabilize the economy!. He first used the term "American System" in 1824!.
Politically, Clay was called the "Great Compromiser", and he had the reputation of being shrewd and a convincing speaker!.
