To begin with the questions are either based on incorrect information or poorly constructed!. Even so I’ll try to answer them:


In 1866 the Fourteenth Amendment guaranteed citizenship to _______

The 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was proposed by the Congress on June 13th, 1866, but it wasn’t declared as certified (able to be used) by the United States Secretary of State until 28 July 1868!. The phrase within it which you are seeking is, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside!. “

It goes on to state, “ No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws!.”

This latter statement is the foundation for the court to now enforce the first eight articles of the Bill of Rights on the States as prior to this date those same articles were applied only to the federal government!.

What you are referring to here is termed ‘Reconstruction’ however, I take exception to the qualifier ‘peacefully’ because it was anything but peacefully!. For example, early in this period the Union military ‘forcefully’ removed some of the State legislatures and ‘forcefully’ replaced them with their own selected representatives!. There is no Constitutional authority for such action!. This action was justified by the 1869 case of Texas v!. White as the court opined that such actions could be taken due to the ‘military conquest’ of the States!.

This also beings into question the final phrase “!. !. !. !. peacefully return the 11 Confederate states back into the Union!. !. !. !. “ First the word ‘states’ should be written as ‘States’ (capitalized) in that they were free, independent, and sovereign States (refer to the 1783 Treaty of Peace – Article One) and they had peacefully enacted their full right of secession (as all of the original States did as they seceded first from Great Britain and then from the Articles of Confederation) to withdraw from the Union and then to enter into confederation with other States!. It was the Union which ‘forcefully’ cross into southern States’ territory and began the war and it was the Union which forcefully destroyed the Confederation and forcefully (not peacefully) made these States a part of the Union to which they wanted no part of!. This is similar to the current efforts of Russia and the free Nation of Georgia!.

I'm guessing that these questions came from your teacher and the answers that your reacher wants you to give are within what I have offered, however, your teach has couched these questions in ways which do not reflect the reality of history!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

2!.Not sure what this actually means, could be "Manual Labor", "low-paying", "unskilled labor", there are lots of phrases that fit!. I expect the answer is in a text or lecture you've had access to!.
