Well I would actually disagree with your point, it is true that USA and Canada are certainly super powers but there are many colonies that have not done so well!. India is a large country, but I don't think you could consider it a super power!. also consider what a mess has been caused in Israel and Palestine!. Similarly Egypt's economy is in a dreadful state with many people living in poverty!.

I think the relative size of the British Empire meant that, purely because they colonized such a high percentage of the countries in the world meant that it was likely that some of them because powerful!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

because England did not rape and pillage the people like Spanish colonies South America Mexico still struggling

and the Dutch just pulled out and never looked back and were forced by the USA to give west papau new Guinea to Indonesia they now want independence and the USA wont help

most of the British African colonies went on to prosper as did 99% of British colonies because Britain help them with their Independence

India gained greatly because of the Magnificent Indian Military not Disbanded after independence their officers were promoted to take over from British officers we stayed in Malaysia Singapore and Borneo to ensure their Independence Indonesia was ready to move in and in 1964 tried and Britain and Me stopped them

Britain under Churchill wanted India to be given Independence with Dignity and Earl Mountbatten was given the Job as The Last Viceroy Of India

and Most of the Colonies Joined the Commonwealth and some have retained the Queen as head of state indicating that Britain did the right thing by all its people and not like the USA we did not go to war to keep states in the Union even though they Joined the union VoluntarilyWww@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps it's because even at it's worst Britain was never the kind of tyrannical dictatorship that many other countries have had to endure, dictators like Saddam really set a country way back and it takes that much longer to develop!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd say that it was the other way round - by having sea-power at a crucial time, Britain could pick some good colonies!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
